THE LEGENDS AT SPIRIT ROCK ESTATES

The Coast Salish First Nations recognized the Gulf Islands and Gabriola Island as a “Garden of Eden”.

Shaman of these First Nations were drawn to the lands we now call “The Legends at Spirit Rock Estates” and visited annually, for several thousand years, to exchange medical supplies and information as evidenced by the prolific petroglyphs, midden sites and artifacts.

Not coincidentally, the name “Nanaimo” is the anglicized translation of the First Nations name “Snuneymuxw” which means “meeting place”.

Nanaimo itself is called the Gateway to Vancouver Island which was named, for the seventh consecutive year, by Conde Nast Traveller magazine as the best Island in North America and Leisure World Best Awards also placed the Island at the top of their list.

Oprah magazine, unknowingly, seemed to describe the Legends properties when it reported a world-wide study by a leading Environmental Biologist which concluded, overwhelmingly, the perfect place to live is ... “High up, surrounded by grassland punctuated by clusters of trees and having in the distance a view of open water.”

The Legends at Spirit Rock Estates is the result of the combined efforts and co-operation of the developer, the community and the local Islands Trust to balance the preservation and protection of 700 acres of Forest, wetland and water recharge area with the developers vision of 49 Ocean and Mountain view acreage estates located on a stunning 290 acre parklike setting.
